A lot has happened since our last update. I, for one, certainly didn’t mean to “fall off” in terms of posting… it just sort-of happened. In my defense, we have been super heads down since May. Let’s take a look at where we’ve landed after two-and-a-half months.
We hired!
If you’ve been keeping up-to-date with our other posts, you’re probably aware that we’ve been aggressively hiring over the past several months. After many interviews with many talented individuals, we’re super excited to welcome three new team members: Joshua Hoeflich, My Tran, and Ambrose Dinh.
Let’s get to know them!

My Tran
Lead Product Manager
My Tran is on the Product team at Linguistic. Before joining Linguistic, she’s worked in social mobile games, blockchain, and augmented and virtual reality apps. She likes hanging out with her cat, Lynx, and is anxiously waiting for the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 in 2024!

Joshua Hoeflich
Senior Backend Engineer
Joshua Hoeflich is a software engineer based out of Brooklyn, New York. He is the 39th contributor to DefinitelyTyped and likes working on projects involving AI and full-stack web development. Josh studied to become an English teacher in college; he is thrilled to work at the intersection of technology and education. Josh enjoys going to the theater, volunteering at animal shelters, visiting museums, and exploring bookstores and coffee shops.

Ambrose Dinh
Full Stack Engineer
Ambrose is a full-stack developer with experience in JavaScript and Python. After graduating in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering degree, he has worked on building dashboards for smart home devices and IP cameras. In his spare time he enjoys reading sci-fi novels, learning Korean, and crabbing.
Needless to say, we’re incredibly stoked to be working with such incredible people. Within their first week alone, they’ve all managed to ship so much. Victoria and I are both blown away. I can’t wait to see where we go next as a team 🧡
We shipped!
While we haven’t been shipping nearly as much as we were previously – almost entirely due to our hiring efforts – we did manage to ship some notable improvements! Over the past couple of months, we’ve shipped a slew of bug fixes, tore down our paywall, and improved the responsiveness of our reader experience.
Wait… what?? We tore down our paywall? Does this mean Linguistic is free? Not quite. We are in the process of revamping our pricing model, and in the meantime we have temporarily removed the paywall from our signup experience.
All this said, we have a ton of new and exciting features in the works and our team is working super hard to bring them to you ASAP.
We spoke!
This past month I attended the eLex Conference in Brno, Czech Republic to talk about Linguistic’s sister project ODict, an open-source dictionary format and compiler used heavily in our product. eLex is one of the world’s largest lexicography conferences and it was truly a privilege to have the opportunity to present alongside such brilliant scholars in the field of linguistics.
Hopefully we can share footage of the talk once it is released by the conference committee!
Well, that’s everything! Back to work (and blogging). See you next week 🚀
